Tourism and aviation groups have issued a warning to the Australian Government. According to many in the travel industry, constant speculation and discussion about terrorism is harming the tourist industry. Margaret Jackson, chairwoman at Qantas, says that the government should realise that providing the public with information can come at an economic cost. Greg Thomas, deputy managing director of the Australian Tourism Export Council, claims that Prime Minister, John Howard, has undermined confidence in air travel by revealing terrorism threats to the public.
