Despite the success of HBOS's takeover of the Bank of Western Australia, the Scottish bank faces a challenge to retain customers. The scheme of arrangement has proven unpopular with retail investors, who have concerns about staff and branch numbers and the ramifications for Perth customers. Disgruntled stockholders' concerns are likely to be shared by many of the bank's customers, and threats by them to change banks have to been taken seriously.
