Do-good worm targets same flaw but with a twist.

A new "do-good" computer worm caused some network congestion on the afternoon of 19 August 2003. John Hatton, senior security analyst with Australia's computer emergency watchdog, AusCERT, says the benign "Nachi" worm, or "MSBlast.D", tries to delete the "MS Blaster" worm from infected computers. It downloads the software patch from Microsoft's web site to repair the damage. However, Hatton says there can be a hitch with the worm. Nachi scanned so heavily for other computers to infect that it probably resulted in attacks on some networks. AusCERT urges users to download the relevant software patches, set up firewalls and ensure anti-virus software is up to date.
