A new method of disposing of greenhouse gases, known as carbon sequestration, has not been well received in developing countries. They worry that carbon sequestration, based on burying carbon dioxide underground, will be an extra burden for their power generation systems. Scott Klara, sequestration manager at the National Energy Technology Laboratory in the US Department of Energy, says that sequestration is the only technology that is able to lead to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas levels. However, the cost of sequestration is prohibitive for power plants operating in developing countries.
