Five New South Wales universities have formed a consortium to purchase a 1.5 teraflop computer. The system consists of 144 clustered Dell PowerEdge systems, each of which runs dual Intel Xeon processors with two gigabytes of addressable memory. They are running under the Linux operating system. They are managed by the Australian Centre for Advanced Computing & Communications. The physical location is in he Australian Technology Park. Funding was provided by a grant from the Australian Research Council. Additional funding came from the five universities involved, the University of Technology in Sydney, Sydney University, University of New South Wales, Macquarie University, and the University of Wollongong....
