Asian refiners show thirst for Iraqi crude oil.

Australasian Business Intelligence, September, 2003

Sep 15, 2003 (The Asian Wall Street Journal - ABIX via COMTEX)

Asian petroleum refiners are believed to have purchased over 10 million barrels of Iraqi crude oil since the end of the Iraqi war. Iraqi oil is considered to be very competitively priced at the present time, and is seen as an alternative supply to OPEC, which is continuing to place restraints on the level of its oil supplies. Indian Oil Corporation, China National Chemical Import & Export Corporation (Sinochem) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation are among the Asian refiners to have signed supply contracts with Iraq in recent months. Iraq is hoping to lift its oil output to 1.1 million barrels by November 2003.
