Publisher Singapore Press Holdings has announced that its net profit rose substantially. The company's net profit rose 23 per cent from $S307.4 million in the 2001-02 financial year to $S378.7 million ($US219.8 million) in the 2002-03 financial year, ended on 31 August 2003. Analysts were disappointed with the results. They expected a profit of around $S400 million. Lim Chin Ben, the chairman of the company, said that spending on advertising was still weak but there are reasons to be "cautiously optimistic".
