Economics is making progress in the analysis of statistical data. The Nobel prize for 2003 has been awarded to two economists who have developed statistical techniques. Robert Engle is an economist at New York University. Briton, Clive Granger is at the University of California. Engle and Granger developed their work during the 1980s. Engle studied volatility and his work provided a basis for measuring risk and avoiding risk in the economy. Granger utilised the idea of economic equilibrium. They created tests to ensure reliable results.
