New Zealand's biggest pay-TV group, Sky Network Television, expects record profit in calendar 2003. CEO John Fellet said on 29 October 2003 that profit should come in at $NZ28 million ($A24.3m), compared with just $NZ671,000 in 2002 and losses in the previous five years. Sky is under a $NZ3.35-a-share takeover offer from Independent Newspapers, controlled by News Corporation. Sky has added entertainment and sports programs to its offering. This has not only boosted subscriber numbers but enabled it to increase its advertising rates and negotiate lower costs for some of the programs it has been buying.
