Big gun to cut Telstra IT costs.
Australasian Business Intelligence, March, 2004
Mar 15, 2004 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX)
Australian telco Telstra is searching for someone to fill the position of deputy chief information officer (CIO). The newly created position will function under the current CIO, Jeff Smith. Telstra relies on divisional CIOs who report to Smith. The new role would be focused on the delivery of technology outcomes, while Smith would continue with a more pure focus on strategy. The development of the new position is seen as part of Telstra's ongoing strategy to cut its IT costs, with Smith promising to reduce the cost of supporting existing IT by 50 in 2005-06.
