A claim of unfair dismissal by a former UK executive with US investment bank, Merrill Lynch, has been upheld. The UK employment tribunal found in favour of Stephanie Villalba, saying she was "shabbily treated". At the same time it did not agree that she had been dismissed on the grounds of her sex. Villalba was suing the bank for Stg7.5 million ($A18.75 million). Although lawyers say she could be awarded up to Stg100,000 for unfair dismissal, it would cost her far more in legal fees.
