Virgin Atlantic's first flight into Sydney on 8 December 2004 failed to revive Virgin Blue's share price. The stock fell by $A0.07 to $A2.01. Virgin's chief Sir Richard Branson said Virgin Blue has done well compared with other budget carriers. He blamed the stock's woes on the recent rise in oil prices. Sir Richard also attacked a decision allowing Qantas and British Airways to agree on fares for flights to the UK. Virgin is expected to launch a low-cost airline in the US in 2005.
