Virgin Group has increased its stake in Australian discount airline Virgin Blue to 25.1 per cent. The private UK company owned by Sir Richard Branson bought 5.1 million shares in Virgin Blue on 28 January 2005, the same day Patrick Corporation announced a takeover bid. Patrick is offering $A1.90 a share, but the stock rose on the news, closing at $A2.08. Sir Richard would not comment directly on what he might do if Patrick raises its offer. Patrick owns 45.4 per cent of the airline.
