Confusion surrounds Patrick Corporation's takeover bid for discount Australian airline Virgin Blue. Patrick's offer is $A1.90 per share, but Virgin Group's Sir Richard Branson claims that it is $A2.06. Minority shareholders do not stand much chance of being heard, with Patrick owning 45 per cent of Virgin Blue and Sir Richard about 25 per cent. The UK entrepreneur claims that because Patrick is bidding for all of the shares it does not own, it must match whatever price he pays for Virgin Blue stock.
