Adelaide's economy could undo its interstate brain drain if it wins the $A6 billion air warfare destroyer contract. If Adelaide-based ASC is selected, it could significantly increase its current 200-member engineering team, as well as double the number of production jobs to around 1,600. SAAB Systems, which is located in Technology Park, Mawson Lakes, could boost its staff levels from 250 people to 280 if it gets the contract to design combat systems for the destroyers. The software engineers currently at SAAB are all under 32 and have been educated at universities around Australia.
