The Australian Senate will set up a broad-based inquiry into the nation's mental health system. It will investigate the chronic shortage of resources and facilities for mental health patients in all categories. The inquiry has the support of Christopher Pyne, the parliamentary secretary responsible for mental health. He believes that the Australian Government should take over responsibility for mental health services if the states are not prepared to provide adequate funding.
