US company, UnitedGlobalCom (UGC), could gain control of Australian pay TV company, Austar. Australian private equity group, Castle Harlan Australian Mezzanine Partners (CHAMP), wants to sell its stake in Austar. Together, UGC and CHAMP own 81.5 per cent of Austar. It is thought that CHAMP will sell part of its holding on the market and part to UGC, which is owned by US media entrepreneur, John Malone. Austar posted a net profit of $A1.8 million for 2004, lower than for the previous year. However, EBITDA and revenue increased.
