Data on political donations has been issued by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). The "big four" banks were among the leading industry donors. Macquarie Bank was another large donor. The institution gave over $A70,000 to Liberal Party offices and about $A60,000 to the Australian Labor Party. AEC records show that industry bodies such as the Investment & Financial Services Association and the Financial Planning Association also made donations. According to its annual report, the latter group pays to attend political functions but does not make direct donations.
