Australian tollroads operator Transurban lost $A42.1 million in the 2004-05 first half. A surprisingly high $A9.4 million loss was attributed to the group's failed bid to win the contract to build and operate the $A2.5 billion Mitcham-Frankston tollway link in Melbourne. That contract went to ConnectEast, a consortium backed by Macquarie Bank. Transurban CEO Kim Edwards remains confident of successfully merging the group with Hills Motorway. He also flagged the company is "very keen" to exploit the booming Queensland economy.
