The Seven Network's damages claim over the demise of its C7 pay-TV channel is scheduled to begin on 18 July 2005. Seven is seeking $A480m in damages from rival television broadcasters and Telstra, arguing that they "conspired" to force Seven to close the fledgling sports channel. Seven commissioned University of California economist and Nobel Prize winner Daniel McFadden to produce a report on its damages claim. News Limited counsel Noel Huntley, SC told the Federal Court that the size of the claim means the case is unlikely to end before the end of 2005. However, there are signs that mediation may be possible.
