Glencore won't market uranium.(Glencore International AG)(Brief Article)
Australasian Business Intelligence, February, 2005 by Bachelard, Michael
Feb 13, 2005 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX)
Australian Treasurer Peter Costello has approved Xstrata's bid for WMC Resources, subject to certain conditions. If the Swiss miner's bid for WMC is successful, it must carry out all marketing duties itself. This means controversial Swiss company Glencore will have no part in the marketing of Australian uranium. Glencore has a 40 per cent stake in Xstrata, and has been accused of negotiating deals with Iran and Iraq. Costello's approval of the Swiss bid is expected to encourage other overseas companies to launch offers.
