David Jones's sales for the second quarter of 2004-05 grew by 4.7 per cent, on a like-for-like basis. On 22 February 2005, the Australian department store chain predicted its full-year profits could grow by up to 10 per cent. CEO, Mark McInnes, claims the competition between David Jones and its rival, Coles Myer, has been good for both companies. According to Nielsen Media Adex data, David Jones outspent Coles in main media advertising during 2003-04, in a bid to retain its market lead. David Jones shares closed $A0.03 lower on 22 February 2005, at $A2.
