US President George W Bush sent his budget request for the 2006 fiscal year to the US Congress on 7 February 2005. Bush requested an increase of 7.8 per cent, or $US500 million, for enforcement activities of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Linda Carlisle, a tax partner of the White & Case law firm, says that if the proposal is accepted large firms should expect more audits. Some people are sceptical whether allocating more money to the IRS will make the agency more effective.
