Telstra will conduct a 10-week trial of 10 new-generation pay telephones in Sydney's CBD. They will feature full-colour touch screens, in-build web cameras, and a capacity to surf the internet, send emails and record video messages. The move comes as the volume of calls on Telstra's pay-phone system falls, given that most people today can choose to make cheaper calls through the internet. The big telco's head of customer sales and service, John Rolland, says staff will help people use the new technology and monitor the most popular services.
