Australian department store, David Jones, has posted a good interim profit for 2004-05. The company reported a net profit of $A52.9 million for the 26 weeks to 29 January 2005, an increase of 22 per cent. Cost reductions were greater than expected and the credit card business increased EBIT by 24.4 per cent. The company expects consumer spending to slow in the second half of 2004-05 but is confident that its business model will perform well. Its share price rose by $A0.13 to close at $A2.08 on 22 March 2005.
