David Jones has announced a 5.9 per cent rise in sales for the 26 weeks to 29 January 2005, to $A1.01 billion. The retailer's net profit for the period increased 22 per cent to $A52.89 million. However, the Australian company has reduced its shareholder discount rewards rate and has cut spending, in anticipation of a slowdown in consumer spending over the coming two years. David Jones' sales growth for February and March has slipped to about two to three per cent. The group's fully-franked $A0.06-a-share interim dividend will be payable on 5 March 2005.
