The prologue leg of the Targa Tasmania car rally has been won by Jim Richards for a record ninth time. Richards's navigator Barry Oliver noted their time in their new Porsche GT3 was two seconds faster than that set in 2004. Richards, who together with Oliver has won Targa seven times, warned that performances in the prologue leg have little bearing on the real race. Richards noted he was defeated by Tony Sullens in 2004 despite being 12 seconds quicker in the prologue. Tony Quinn came second in the prologue in his Porsche 911 Turbo.
