Skywest cuts from 5% to 1%.(Skywest Airlines Proprietary Ltd.)(Brief Article)

On 2 May 2005, Skywest will reduce its travel agents' commissions from five to one per cent. Salv Silvera, the manager of industry sales at the regional Australian airline, says research shows that most of the agents offering Skywest product have already prepared for falling commission levels by introducing service fees. Up to 60 per cent of the carrier's business stems from travel agents. Airline management has indicated that agents can improve their returns on airfare sales by charging a customer service fee of between $A20 and $A55.
