On 7 April 2005, the Giorgio Armani company officially opened its new store on Collins Street, in Melbourne. Armani's global group director and marketing manager, John Hooks, says the group is not a pioneer when it comes to real estate, regarding choice of location for its stores as among its more difficult decisions. Hooks claims that as Armani is a very well-established, expensive brand, its stores need to be in a well-established location. The new Melbourne store, which will cost approximately $A2,525 a square metre to fit out, is situated close to other exclusive fashion stores such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel. Armani turned over $A2.2 billion in the 2003 calendar year.
