The Construction, Forestry, Mining & Energy Union of Australia does not believe a damages claim over industrial action will be taken further. The union said it does not expect construction group John Holland to proceed any further with a writ for damages over strikes on three projects in Western Australia. The union, which is also the subject of legal action by Wesfarmers, suggested John Holland would be too concerned about the financial ramifications of a protracted legal dispute. John Holland spokesman, Stephen Sasse, said the writ is a serious action, and noted the decision to initiate legal action was not taken lightly.
