Australian telco Singtel Optus will launch its third-generation (3G) mobile telephone network in Canberra in late April 2005. The company expects to roll-out 3G services in other Australian capitals later in the year. Optus has joined forces with Vodafone Australia to launch a national 3G network in order to compete with the Telstra/Hutchison partnership. Third-generation technology allows mobile telephone users to transmit video footage.
