Macquarie Radio Network (MRN) listed on the Australian sharemarket in late April 2005. The stock was issued at $A1, and closed at $A1.75 on 22 April. MRN is backed by advertising executive John Singleton, who owns 76.7 per cent of the group. His stake in MRN is now worth around $A82m. Singleton says many people doubted that MRN would have such success, but he believes that Lonely Planet offers greater potential than any other brand in Australia. Singleton owns 30 per cent of the travel publisher, having recently bought the 10 per cent shareholding of ANZ Bank's private equity arm.
