Australian banks, St George and Westpac, are expected to report good interim results for 2004-05. St George is expected to post a profit of $A435 million for the half year to 31 March 2005, an increase of 5.8 per cent. The bank is experiencing pressure on margins in mortgage lending. Meanwhile, Westpac is expected to post an interim profit of $A1.35 billion. It has lost market share in mortgage lending. However, its business lending has increased margins and its wealth management business has performed better than expected.
