Austar director Deanne Weir says Telstra may face problems in implementing its plan for an internet protocol TV (IPTV) service. Weir notes that companies that currently supply content to pay-TV groups such as Foxtel and Austar may be reluctant to also provide content to rival service providers. Macquarie Bank analysts add that the telco's IPTV proposal would affect Austar and Foxtel the most, although it would also create some "confusion and uncertainty" in the free-to- air TV sector. Telstra hopes to use its ADSL network to deliver IPTV services.
