Computer attacks down, but new threat emerges.

Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2005

Australian corporations appear to have established strong defences against electronic attacks, however incidents of online identity theft have increased. According to a survey by AusCERT, only 35 per cent of respondents reported network breaches in the year ended February 2005, compared with 49 per cent in 2004. The costs associated with damage inflicted on corporations by computer viruses and worms also declined during the 12 month period. The study indicates that online identity theft is now a major concern.
