Increasing numbers of women lawyers are reaching the top levels of the Australian legal profession. Law firm, Allens Arthur Robinson, is taking six new partners in July 2005 and half are women. Allens' managing partner, Tom Poulton, said that commercial reasons are causing the cultural shift. Firms cannot afford to lose good people. Three large national law firms have adopted a model equal opportunity briefing policy, which aims to give more court work to women barristers.
