Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2005

Hancock Prospecting is preparing to advertise for 25 staff for its $A2bn Hope Downs iron ore project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The company is starting the recruitment process despite not yet finding a joint venture partner to replace Kumba Resources. It has been speculated the companies negotiating with Hancock Prospecting include Rio Tinto, Xstrata and Consolidated Minerals. A formal development plan must be lodged by the end of June 2005. If Hancock Prospecting does not secure a new partner by 1 July 2005, Kumba will retain its 49 holding in the project.
