Australian law firm, Allens Arthur Robinson, has a thorough process for selection of partners. Managing partner, Tom Poulton, said that new lawyers are assessed as potential partners from their first day with the firm. Allens tries to expand their skills, particularly in the areas of leadership and practice-building. The formal selection process begins after about eight to 10 years. Candidates prepare a business case and are interviewed. The firm's board then makes recommendations on candidates.
