Online music sites such as Apple's iTunes service are helping to revive the struggling recording industry. Since its launch, over 200 million songs have been downloaded from iTunes at a cost of $US.099, with 75 per cent of that fee going to music companies. With sales of recorded music and DVDs in decline, online music sites are seen as one way for the recording music industry to survive, as are mobile telephone ringtones. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry has forecast revenue of $A660 million from downloaded music in 2005, while the mobile telephone music market could be worth $A500 million by 2007.
