Karen Curtis, the Privacy Commissioner, along with the Australian Government have called for the creation of "a do not call" register. Rob Edwards, the CEO of the Australian Direct Marketing Association, says it has no problems with the idea, so long as it is the consumer who makes the decision. He notes that the ADMA's recent Consumer Insights Study found that 90 per cent of those surveyed were happy to provide basic personal details like date of birth and their employment to companies, while 65 per cent said they were happy to get unsolicited direct mail.
