United gets numbers right on Alstom.

Engineering firm United Group has paid $A267.5m for the Australian transport arm of French group Alstom. The acquisition was expected to cost United between $A350m and $A400m. The purchase has given United Group an additional $A900m in contracts. The acquisition of Alstom's rail and infrastructure arm will give United an advantage in the race for a $A1.5bn New South Wales RailCorp contract. United shares were placed in a trading halt on 2 June 2005, closing at $A8.68.
