Jul 31, 2005 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Harry Markowitz, a pioneer of modern investment theory, will speak in Australia on 11 and 12 August 2005. He will speak at the University of Technology, Sydney on the history and future of investment. A graduate of the University of Chicago in the US, Markowitz formulated portfolio theory, and defined concepts of risk and diversification in investment. His 1952 thesis provided the grounding for the future direction in economic study, although he points out that there are references to diversification as far back as Shakespeare.
