Airlines are preparing themselves for even higher fuel prices. Giovanni Bisignani, the head of the International Air Transport Association, is very pessimistic about the impact of high fuel prices on airlines. For him, it is the "apocalypse". Warren Bennett, executive director of the Board of Airline Representatives of Australia, says that if the price of oil rises to $US100 a barrel, airlines will have to cancel certain destinations and reduce frequencies of flights. However, Qantas is well prepared for oil price shocks, thanks to strong margins and fuel hedging.
