The Federal Government has allocated $A1 million over the next four years in its 2005- 06 Budget for the National Pro Bono Resource Centre. The Centre is based at the University of New South Wales. It was established by the Public Interest Advocacy Centre in August 2002. Since October 2002, the centre has been operating as a separate company. The Centre expects to complete four projects by the end of 2005. They are a national survey of barristers, law firms and solicitors about their pro bono activities; a mapping project for pro bono activities; a survey of indigenous legal organisations; and best practice pro bono sessions.
