Aug 30, 2005 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Ion car parts maker in Australia has been in financial difficulties for some time. It was placed in voluntary administration in
December 2004. In late August 2005, Ion revealed that it will have to abolish 200 jobs, because GM Holden has cancelled a key contract. Around 1,700 jobs in Australia's automotive industry have already been lost in August 2005. The car industry is facing huge challenges, including lower tariff protection
