Aug 15, 2005 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The University of Melbourne has taken steps to protect its computer network. The Victorian university recently fell victim to
a hacker, who managed to gain access to a server. The security breach resulted in the leaking of some 6,000 staff passwords. External consultants have been appointed to
assess the university's computer security procedures. A spokeswoman says the major focus of the review will be the university's
failure to discover the breach straight away.
