Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2005

Aug 11, 2005 (ACCC Update - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) is responsible for regulating fairness in pricing. While healthy business competition normally negates the need for ACCC involvement, it may step in where one company monopolises the market and little rivalry exists. The ACCC directs it attention to specific sectors as ordered by the Australian Government. These are often

recently deregulated industries or, lately, fuel retailing. The Trade Practices Act 1974 sets out the ACCC's roles and jurisdictions.
