Coal price fuels Wesfarmers growth.

Aug 09, 2005 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian conglomerate, Wesfarmers, raised its profits by nine per cent, to $A618.3

million, in 2004-05. A strong rise in coking coal prices contributed to the result. The group's energy operations generated 30 per cent of full year pre-EBIT. Trade sales from the Bunnings hardware stores division fell 1.9 per cent. Wesfarmers has announced plans to raise capital expenditure during 2005-06

and has allocated $A900 million to refurbish the Bunnings unit and to boost operations at the Curragh North coal mine. Wesfarmers shares closed at $A40.73 on 9 August 2005, a

$A0.15 gain.
