Aug 08, 2005 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Analysts are speculating that telco equipment group, Marconi, and its Chinese partner,
Huawei, may announce they are in merger discussions. In early August 2005, Marconi recorded a Stg36 million first-half operating loss. The group's shares have plummeted this
year, due to the company's failure to secure a Stg10 billion contract with BT. That failure prompted rumours Marconi's future as an independent group may be in doubt. To date, Marconi has refused to comment on the possibility of a merger with Huawei.
