Australasian Business Intelligence, September, 2005
Sep 28, 2005 (Retail World - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Woolworths intends to buy 22 Action supermarkets in Western Australia, Queensland
and northern New South Wales. The planned acquisitions are part of the $A3.3 billion break-up of Foodland's Australasian assets. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has released a "statement of issues" in which it expresses preliminary
concerns about eight of the Action stores targeted by Woolworths. Market participants are invited to submit comments on competition concerns to the regulator by 15 September
2005, after which a final decision will be made.
